Welcome! My name is Eric, but I also go by Father Eric, husband, and daddy.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I decided to create this online space as a way to post sermons and other writings and reflections, mostly having to do with spirituality and the Church.
I serve as rector (a fancy word for “head priest” but in my case, “only priest”) at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Andalusia, Alabama, a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. My duties as rector include preaching, leading worship, administering the sacraments, teaching, pastoral care, and administration of the parish.
I love being an Episcopal priest. In fact, I can’t imagine doing anything else! The Episcopal Church is my spiritual home and a place where all are welcome, no matter who they are or where they come from. We do this because it’s what Jesus would have us do, and this commitment to radical welcome and hospitality is what keeps me motivated as a priest. It’s what drew me to the Episcopal Church in the first place (other than the amazing people and beautiful worship).
I’m married to my best friend and partner in life, Chelsea. We were married in 2006 at St. Dunstan’s, the Episcopal Church at Auburn University, which is also where we both first discovered and fell in love with the Episcopal Church. We have two amazing children, Sophie and Jude.
Before going to seminary for my priestly formation, I worked six years as a choral music director, mostly in southeast Alabama. Music is a passion of mine. I love being able to use my experience and gifts as a musician and singer in my ministry as a priest.
My other interests include: cooking (Cajun/Creole is my favorite), baking (especially for birthdays), watching movies (I love anything fantasy and science fiction-related), reading books (mostly church-related but I love a good novel as well), and exercise (especially getting outdoors for a nice run or taking a ride on my exercise bike).
I also love meeting new people and getting to know their stories. In my opinion, there’s nothing more valuable in a community of faith than building meaningful relationships. It’s one of the most important ways we’re called to share the love of God in Christ with our brothers and sisters. I also value the role of the Church in the wider community. The Church doesn’t exist only for itself. Everything we do is pointing us toward our mission, which is to help restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.
